Windlass Part 2

With some help from DeBond and some long range coaching from Scotty we got this bad boy free from the deck. Now tear down, reassemble, and fingers crossed back in business.

Back in St. Lucia

5 Canadian boats and an American boat for happy hour  at BB's, Rodney Bay  Marina.  Most of us are here to equalize, fix, provision,  prepare to haul and go home for the "summer ". When 85F is your new comfort level is there such a thing as summer? Yep anything in the 70's  has me going to get my fleece. Water temp 82F, refreshing but not cold,  only a shock for the first 10 seconds.

A cross roads tonight,  boats going south,  boats going north. So fun to meet everyone.

Cheers

Cruising the Windwards

Ok, we are still  new at this, enjoy the islands but feel that cruising is limited, only a few anchorages and lots of competition from the charter boats. Not many opportunities to "gunk hole" something we really enjoy.

Royal Clipper

The cuise ship Royal Clipper arrives in Admiralty Bay, Bequia, SVG. We have seen some impressive sailing vessels here in the Windwards.

Oh, Oh

The dreaded Maxwell Oil Leak. I suspect the right angle drive where it connects to the gearbox. This is the third time ours has leaked. At least now I know how to fix it but it is not an easy task, Maxwell made sure of that. Essentially I will have to pull it off the deck and take it all apart. Oh the joy!

Not out of the woods yet.

Blogger is  working. Setting up Sylken Sea email back on my phone is not working.

Wind, Seas, Stabilizers and our 48

It has been  a great  trip  south,  highly recommended.  Yes the seas are more challenging, pick your weather, the boat manages well,  after  a few  rough crossings I started to document in the ship's log after the standard "weather/speed/hdg/location, sea conditions, stabilizer activity and rate of roll. Data collection of this type is very  subjective. We hope to develope a data base we can use to anticipate the comfort level we can enjoy on future crossings.

Happy to share reality.

Back On Line

OK, sorry for the lack of posts here. Something went wrong with our Sylken Sea Google account. Hoping it is now fixed.

Anyway sitting in Robert "Righteous" & the Youth's Bar in Mayreau (pronounced My-Row), SVG with guests Ken & Carol. We are all getting caught up on our digital toys.It has been a busy month since Marigot Bay St Lucia. After a stop in Rodney Bay (check out the Micro Brewery!) we spent a week or so in Martinique, had a rental car and did some touring with Vladimir & Marina, hung out with them and with Jason & Laura and John & Roberta. then back to Bequia, on to Mustique and now Mayreau.  OK, the crew says it's time to leave the bar and head back to Sylken Sea so I'm signing off.
