Wrightsville Beach

We "check in" to the anchorage we so like in Wrightsville Beach, NC. This is a must do stop. Mike and Patti from KKY Salt & Light swing by in their Whaler, offer local advice and invite us to join them for dinner. Wow, yes, we are definitely in. We go to Wilmington, have a great evening and walk the river afterwards. Very gracious hosts. We are in the South after all, right?
(Sojourn anchored next to us in Wrightsville Beach).

Mile Hammock

Back in Mile Hammock Bay along with 20+ boats.  Very tight but doable in the mild winds forecast.  'September Summer' calls us on the VHF, a DeFeever custom trawler.  Turns out we "met" them off of the Exumas fishing last spring.  Small world.

Down the Sounds we go

We leave 'Mosey' at the anchorage in North River, just south of Coinjock.  Sojourn stopped off in Coinjock the night before and Sea Quill is headed for Manteo. We decide on the "Sounds" route (Albermarle, Croatan and Pamlico).  We've done this the last few years and really like it as long as the weather is in our favor! Sylvianne says: "it's like being off shore without going outside".  First night we stop in Long Shoal River. It's very good getting in or out with good holding and room for a thousand boats. Alas, we are all alone.  Next morning we are underway early as the 15-20 kts forecast of yesterday is now 20-25kts from the east so we have a following sea most of the way. We did see 25+ kts and steep 3-4' seas. Later in the afternoon we saw 25-30kts with a few gusts higher (the new Garmin Weather add-on is great!).  Again, a Krogen in a following sea is a dream.  Try that in a square stern!  We know, we did experience that in a previous boat. Ugly.  4pm on the second day finds us comfortably at anchor in South River, just north of Adams Creek (ICW).

More on Norfolk

Must do the Chrysler Museum of Art. It's spectacular!  Visit the Nauticast and tour the battleship Wisconsin.  Enjoy walks through the town; all that wonderful cobblestone.  Enjoy the microbrewers and restaurants. There's lots to do in Norfolk, VA

Norfolk & South

We travel with a "gaggle" of boats, including Sea Quill and Sojourn. Go through Great Bridge and down the canal to Coinjock.  In Great Bridge lock we meet 'Mosey' which is a custom steel trawler, owner built, wow!  Turns out their previous boat was a 1995 Krogen 42!  We need to get them to the 2012 Krogen gathering!

Krogens "The Good Life", "Sea Quill" & "Sylken Sea" at Waterside Marina, Norfolk, VA.

Escort Service

The US Navy call on Sea Quill to escort them into port.

The Good Life

Ah yes, the good life on a boat, even better on a Krogen!

Krogen Rendezvous

Great time at "Gilligan's Island" (aka Solomon's).  Again Will & Sue did a fantastic job organizing. Randy & Nick got us all in & out without a scratch and no stress. Go slow, think 'island time'.  Works docking too!

The Howells were shopping for a boat to get them off  of "Gilligan's Island"!
